Earth Day Ghana 2020 Video Contest Results!

The results are in for WA BiCC’s Earth Day Ghana 2020 Video Contests, organized in partnership with the Ghana Wildlife Division, A Rocha Ghana and Kali Etch! Altogether, WA BiCC received 70 submissions, all showcasing students’ creativity, smarts, and passion for protecting our planet. Check out the first-, second- and third-place winners and their videos!

Contest 1: Junior High School

Students were to submit a 30-second to 1-minute video in which they answer the question: “What environmental problem are you most concerned about and what is the most important thing people can do to address it?” There were 41 entries.

  • First place: Osbert Mosore, The Flobar School

 

  • Second place: Naana Annan, Silicon Valley International

 

  • Third place: Sharifa Alhassan, Beacon International School

 

The 1st place winner will receive a tablet, 2nd place will receive a camera, and 3rd place will receive headphones! Once school is back in session, the winning student will also have the opportunity to meet and have a photo taken with a high-ranking member of U.S. Embassy Ghana.

 

Contest 2: Senior High School

Students were to submit a 1- to 2-minute video featuring them singing a song, reciting a poem, or rapping to educate people about why protecting the earth’s forests and other natural resources are important to help combat climate change. There were 10 entries.

  • First place: Chibuikem Mbanefo, Tema International School

 

  • Second place: Magdalene Nantwi, International Community School

 

  • Third place: Folake Onifade, Achimota School

 

The 1st place winner will receive a laptop, 2nd place will receive a smartphone, and 3rd place will receive a camera! In addition, once school is back in session, the video will be re-taped and feature a cameo by a high-ranking member of the U.S. Embassy/Ghana.

 

Contest 3: Undergraduate Students

Students were to submit a 4- to 6- minute video that demonstrates “3 Ways Ghana Can Become a Leader in Addressing Climate Change.” There were 16 entries.

  • First place: Reuben Yeboah, Tamale School of Hygiene

 

  • Second place: Frank Mafri, University For Development Studies

  • Third place: Shyleen Mudau, KNUST

 

The 1st place winner will receive a laptop, 2nd place will receive a smartphone, and 3rd place will receive a camera! Once school is back in session, the winning student will also have the opportunity to meet and have a photo taken with a high-ranking member of U.S. Embassy Ghana.
