Bilateral meeting and program visit to Ziama-Wonegizi-Wologizi

February 2 - February 15

From 2nd to 15th February, WA BiCC staff and USAID missions from West Africa, Guinea, and Liberia will have a bilateral meeting, complemented by field visits to the Ziama-Wonegizi-Wologizi transboundary forest landscape in Guinea and Liberia. The objective of the meeting and field visits is to review progress from the project launch which took place in October 2018.

The Ziama-Wonegizi-Wologizi transboundary forest is considered as a key biodiversity hotspot. The transboundary forest is threatened by forest degradation and habitat loss due to agricultural encroachment, mining, and other activities. The communities in and around the forest live in extreme poverty, limiting their access to less destructive farming tools and methods, or diverse livelihood alternatives.

WA BiCC initiated work with Fauna & Flora International, the Government of Guinea’s Nzerekore Forestry Center, development partners, and communities to explore collaborative management methods in the landscape.  To read more about the project, click here.
