Literature Review in Preparation of the Co-Management Plan for the Sherbro River Estuary

The most important feature of the vegetation of the Sherbro River Estuary is its mangrove vegetation endowment. The estuary holds the largest area of pristine mangrove forests in the country and accounts for about 54% of the country’s mangrove resources. Compared to other major marine ecosystems, it also accounts for the largest mangrove cover per unit area of the estuarine ecology in the country
