Regional Workshop on Combating Wildlife Trafficking For Prosecutors and Judicial Officers – Accra Report

In anticipation of new baselines on threats to biodiversity, and to determine ways of strengthening policy implementation, WA BiCC decided to initiate awareness-raising and capacity-strengthening programs for stakeholders. They held a workshop that addressed wildlife trafficking issues and wildlife legislation, while exploring the roles stakeholders — judges, prosecutors, and investigators — might play in finding a solution. One of the largest problems to overcome was the fact that many arrested wildlife criminals receive weak penalties at best.
